Droll …
It is impossible to say which is my favourite, and I really cannot understand the concept of “best” when it comes to wine.
But there was one wine that I had earlier this year, which I have not stopped thinking about. It was a Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalane from Roussillon, an ‘08 Muscat Sec by Domaine de Blanes. It is made from a blend of Muscat à Petits Grains and Muscat d’Alexandrie.
This wine was described almost perfectly by Tamlyn Curren for JancisRobinson.com:
A dry muscat that smells like yellow mimosa blossom in the early morning, soft and spicy and perfumed. As delicate as lace, it tastes of spring flowers and sweet William pears. Very pretty, very girl-next-door.
Genius.
Just close your eyes and think about it for a minute.
It is one of those rare occurrences when a tasting note genuinely captures the essence of a wine. When it is not just a grocery list.
